My thoughts: Like I’ve come to expect of Jennifer L. Armentrout books, Dream of You was great. I don’t know how she does it, but I’d really like to know. (summary from Goodreads)

 My thoughts: Dream of You is about Abby Erickson, a 28 year old widow. When she was in high school, she dated Kevin, who later became her husband. He died in a car accident four years ago. Abby works as an editor (which is a dream, by the way. Getting paid for reading books? Sounds perfect), and she loves her job. She always works. She doesn’t have the greatest confidence. She has issues with her body. She’s just like your average woman.

   I like Abby. She’s like a fresh breath of air; it’s rare to find a book that is about someone with bad confidence. There are a lot of books about girls and women with a lot of problems, but how often do you find a heroine with bad confidence? Not that often. To quote Abby’s friend;

“One of the things you never really see in a romance book is a woman who has self-esteem issues. I mean, I’m sure they’re out there, but they’re few and far between. Like they can have eating disorders, post-traumatic stress from sexual assault or mental abuse. They can be sold into sex trafficking and they can carry epic amounts of grief. We have female characters who have suffered every loss imaginable and ones who are scarred physically and mentality, but where in the hell are the average women? Ones who look in the mirror and cringe a little? Like, why are all those others acceptable to women, but reading or knowing another woman who has a low self-esteem is, like, worse than all that drama llama?”

   I found myself nodding along and agreeing, because it’s true.

   We also meet Colton Anders, who is Reece’s brother (I know, swoon!). I just have to say this; JLA is great at creating swoon-worthy guys that makes you wish they were real. How many times haven’t I fangirled about guys that she created? I’ve lost count. Colton didn’t disappoint.

   As usual, there’s nothing to complain about on the writing. I loved the characters, the romance was great (and sexy), the plot was interesting.

   I was a little hesitant to read Dream of You, because I usually find novellas and short stories pretty disappointing. I don’t feel like you get to know the characters enough to get invested in the story, to really want to know what happens, but I knew that JLA always surprises me (in a good way), so I decided to try it. And was happily surprised!
