Thursday Quotables: The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #2) by Rick Riordan

Welcome back to Thursday Quotables! This weekly feature is the place to highlight a great quote, line, or passage discovered during your reading each week.  Whether it’s something funny, startling, gut-wrenching, or just really beautifully written, Thursday Quotables is where my favorite lines of the week will be, and you’re invited to join in!

I haven't done one of these in ages, but last week, I started reading a great book with lots of great quotes, so I had to do this. I picked a few quotes from The Sea of Monsters, the second book in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. So far, there are just so many hilarious quotes, and I haven't gotten that far yet.
“Thalia had been turned into a pine tree when she was 12. Me... well, i was doing my best not to follow her example. I had nightmares about what Poseidon might turn me into if I were ever in the verge of death—plankton, maybe. Or a floating patch of kelp.”
Not surprisingly, this, as many other quotes, made me laugh.
“Families are messy. Immortal families are eternally messy. Sometimes the best we can do is to remind each other that we're related for better or for worse...and try to keep the maiming and killing to a minimum.”
Another good quote that I love, but that is also funny. This is such a great quote.

As you can probaby imagine, I have laughed throughout most of it so far, and I expect to laugh a lot more. I just love the writing so much. I honestly don't know why I haven't picked it up sooner.

What did you think about my quotes? Do you like them as much as I do? Or do you have another Thursday Quotables? Tell me in the comments!

  1. These are great! I love the bit about plankton and kelp. :) I've only read the first in the series, but I think I should keep going!

    1. It's really great! I thought I wouldn't like it, since it's for younger readers, but I loved it! It was really fun to read :)

  4. I adore that series! (I like it much better than Heroes of Olympus.) I think Uncle Rick does a nice job of balancing the funny and sassy moments with actual dilemnas and serious problems. Not to mention moral values, family dynamics, and growing up. Like Lulu, I really should reread this series. I hope you enjoy the rest of the books!

    1. Thanks! I agree, I think it can be pretty hard to balance funny and sassy moments with serious problems, but Rick does a very good job with it. It's so good, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series!
