Review: All Lined Up (Rusk University #1) by Cora Carmack

Title: All Lined Up
Author: Cora Carmack
My rating: ❤❤❤❤❤
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Publication date: May 13th, 2014
Publisher: William Morrow Paperbacks
Summary: New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cora Carmack follows up her trio of hits—Losing It, Faking It, and Finding It—with this thrilling first novel in an explosive series bursting with the Texas flavor, edge, and steamy romance of Friday Night Lights.

In Texas, two things are cherished above all else—football and gossip. My life has always been ruled by both.

Dallas Cole loathes football. That's what happens when you spend your whole childhood coming in second to a sport. College is her time to step out of the bleachers, and put the playing field (and the players) in her past.

But life doesn't always go as planned. As if going to the same college as her football star ex wasn’t bad enough, her father, a Texas high school coaching phenom, has decided to make the jump to college ball… as the new head coach at Rusk University. Dallas finds herself in the shadows of her father and football all over again.

Carson McClain is determined to go from second-string quarterback to the starting line-up. He needs the scholarship and the future that football provides. But when a beautiful redhead literally falls into his life, his focus is more than tested. It's obliterated.

Dallas doesn't know Carson is on the team. Carson doesn't know that Dallas is his new coach's daughter.

And neither of them know how to walk away from the attraction they feel. (summary from Goodreads)

My thoughts: I was a little hesitant to read this at first, but I’m glad I gave it a chance, because it was far better than I expected it to be.

“In Texas, two things are cherished above all else—football and gossip. My life has always been ruled by both.”
   Let’s start with Dallas.
Dallas has some serious daddy issues. Her dad is pretty overprotective, and he doesn’t want her to leave Texas, which is why she ends up in Rusk University, when she wants to go to a university with a good dance program. When she was in high school, her dad was football coach, and she was looking forward to him not working where she went to school. Then he starts working as the coach at Rusk University, which complicates her plan of enjoying college without having her dad breathing down her neck.
   I really liked Dallas.
Except for the fact that she loves dancing (like me, haha), she felt real. She was easy to love and connect with. She’s brutally honest, which is pretty obvious from the start.
   Dallas isn’t perfect.
In fact, she has somethings she could really work on, but that’s what I loved about her. No one is perfect, and it’s important in books that the characters aren’t perfect. She let her previous experiences keep her from letting people in, especially football players, since a football player hurt her in high school. She’s scared of being hurt again.
What was so great was the character development.
Dallas really grows throughout the story, learns from her mistakes and get stronger from the hard things she faced.
   Then we have Carson.
He’s a football player, aspiring to become the quarterback to get a scholarship. I liked Carson, too. The chemistry between Carson and Dallas is obvious from the beginning.
I liked that it was from both Dallas and Carson’s perspective; it gives the reader a better picture of everything that happens.
Sweet, humorous, sexy – All Lined Up has it all!
The plot was good, and it didn’t take long for me to get invested with the characters and caught up in the book. It had me giggling, swooning, laughing and crying from the first page to the very last one.
