My
thoughts: Dragon King is about Arian and Grace. Grace goes to Scotland to find
inspiration for her new novel, and find Arian. Arian is mysterious, and naked.
Grace gets stuck in his mountain because of a storm, and they start to get to
know each other.
Grace is an author. She’s late with her new
book, so she goes to Scotland, where her book takes place, to find inspiration
again. Grace is terrified of storms, because a lot of bad things that happened
to her during storms. She easily trusts people.
Arian just woke up after sleeping for six
hundred years, and finds Grace in his cave. He’s very suspicious of her, and
tries to figure out whether or not she’s working with the Dragon Kings’
enemies. He is very protective.
Dragon
King is good enough. It’s well-written, it has nice enough characters and a
good plot. I think everything happened pretty quickly, which I guess is
necessary in a novella, but I don’t like that. I want it to take time to get to
know the characters, because then it’s easier to really get them. But
everything between Grace and Arian happened really quickly. This is a usual
problem with novellas; everything’s too quick and I just can’t bring myself to
really care about the characters enough to really enjoy reading.
The biggest problem was that I didn’t get
invested. Sure, I wanted to know what happened, if Grace and Arian would end up
together, but it wasn’t the kind of book that made me giggle hysterically, cry
floods, and have major fangirl attacks. I mean, usually, I’m an emotional mess
while I read, and that makes the book better, because it means I’m really
invested in the characters, that I really care about what happens to them, but
this didn’t happen this time.
It could get a little boring at times, but
it was otherwise a great read, and I’d definitely recommend it.
