Backlist Shelf Control: The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski

Backlist Shelf Control is a new weekly feature hosted by The Reading Faery that will run on Fridays, which is dedicated to sharing backlist books that have been on your TBR for too long. Each week, you talk about a backlist book (any book published 2018 or earlier) that you're excited to read and why you want to read it. If you participate, feel free to comment on my post and share your link, so that I can check out your post!

Okay, so, this post is a day early, because I'm hosting a blog tour tomorrow, but please share your links if you post something tomorrow!

Title: The Winner's Curse
Series: The Winner's Trilogy #1
Author: Marie Rutkoski
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Romance
Pub. date: March 4th, 2014
Publisher: Farrar Straus Girour
SynopsisWinning what you want may cost you everything you love...

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart. (synopsis from Goodreads)

Why I want to read it:
This is actually a book I own - I bought it two years ago to my Kindle before we went on vacation, fully planning to read it on the flight. But I ended up reading another book I had downloaded, and then forgot all about it. But it's really time to read it soon, because it sounds awesome. I mean, first of all, a heroine refusing to accept her fate, determined to make her own future, is, well, something I can't resist. I also have to admit I've heard a lot of great things about this book, and it did make me interested in reading it.

Let's chat! What backlist books have been on your TBR for far too long? Let me know in the comments!
