From #1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes the next installment in her Wicked series.

If you know me, you'll know that I absolutely love Jennifer L. Armentrout's writing. That being said , this one just wasn't what I've come to expect from her stories. It was definitely good and enjoyable, don't get me wrong, but The King just didn't wow me. I do have hopes the next one will be better, though.

I like Bri. She's become a badass to rival even Ivy, and I love it. While I don't find her all that relatable, she's still fun and interesting to read about. And, relatable or not, I like her, and I really want to know what happens to her. After everything she's been through, she definitely deserves her happily ever after.

The romance was great. There is just so much tension between Bri and Caden, and this is why I love hate-to-love romance so much. Even when it turns more into love than hate, it makes for so much lovely tension, and with two stubborn characters like these, it's a treat for any romance lover.

The plot is what brought down my rating. It made sense for Bri and Caden's story to go there, but honestly, there was a pretty big part of the story that I started skipping through after a while. I think I would've enjoyed it more as a full-length novel, instead of a novella, when that would've been a smaller part of the plot, but as it was about half of the story, it definitely lowered my rating. And there were lots of plot twists – some I predicted, some that made me doubt everything I know.

Overall, I definitely enjoyed this one. The main character is really likeable, the romance is a treat for all romance lovers, but the plot ruined it for me, even though I can see that it made sense for Bri and Caden's story to go this way. But I have hope that the next one will be better.
